Assessment: the Environment crisis is a Humankind crisis.

In Arkadin, we believe that the first important assessment is that the crisis is not about environment but about human responsibilities and behaviour. Indeed the world could survive without human. As we are another species made to disappear at some point because of the theory of Evolution by Natural selection. Why Human beings would be spared?

What we want to state is we can evolve in order to fit to our environment. As Darwin said “In the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed”, we believe that this is the time to strengthen and enhance our life styles.

The second assessment lies in the fact that we have a greater access to consumer goods and that our consumption is growing too fast. As a matter of fact, we produce more and more unsustainable and polluting goods while we need to find solutions to reuse and recycle them.

Finally, one of the definitions of sustainable development is “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Brundtland Commission). It means that if we want to survive, we need to have this long-term believes to respect indirectly people we won’t live with.

When am I ready to change?

We concede that change is hard for anyone, but we need to change and adapt ourselves. Sociologists showed that there are 3 different ways of adaptation:

     • We can adapt being forced (wars, natural disasters ...).
     • We can adapt thanks to regulations, usually slow (State, government, institutions ...).
     • Finally we can adapt naturally.

This last point is interesting and need to be developed. Indeed this last way of changing implies 3 rules:

     • We need to find personal benefits, to fell what we are doing makes things better.
     • We need to be part of a movement, to imitate people, to be followed. It has to be part of a social impulse.
     • We need to meet simpler and cheaper interests

Business travellers’ survey

In order to have a better definition of the business travellers, we are glad to announce that Arkadin is supporting IFOP and WWF-France in achieving an European survey (France, UK, Germany, Spain and Italy) about their habits, behaviour, motivations, tendencies and practises. We believe that we can help companies to make their 1st step towards sustainable ways of collaborating by understanding their needs.

The Survey WWF-France/IFOP with kind support of www.arkadin.com will analyse deeply the ins and outs that motivate the travellers and try to find out if all of these travels are really necessary. It will underline the alternative solutions and also clarify the image, the drawbacks or the reasons of business travels.

What can I do from now?

Start educating your colleagues by offering them Arkadin remote collaboration solutions. Besides, in order to facilitate this adoption, Arkadin created the Climate Care Day. This event has been designed to inform and teach people how to reduce business travel and face-to-face meeting can eventually increase their productivity and efficiency.

Join Arkadin and Climate Care Day right now to change your way of collaborating and increase your use of remote collaboration tools.
